The idea of Gleanagles was first conceived in 1910 during the era of the “Grand Hotel” and was meant to serve primarily as a golf retreat. Progress was stalled by World War I, with the hotel finally opening to the public in 1924. Gleneagles closed again during WWII and became a military hospital, eventually reopening as a hotel in 1947.
